Sonic has launched an airdrop program to reward users and developers for contributing to the network’s growth. A total of 190,500,000 S tokens will be distributed through two main categories:

• Sonic Points – Rewards for users who engage with applications, provide liquidity, and participate in governance.
• Sonic Gems – Incentives for developers who drive user activity and innovation within the network.

Rather than a simple token giveaway, the airdrop is structured to encourage long-term participation. Vesting schedules and burn mechanisms prevent excessive token dumping, ensuring that rewards go to active users and developers who contribute to the ecosystem’s growth.

How the Sonic Airdrop Works

You can earn Sonic Points and Gems by engaging with the network, providing liquidity, and driving activity on Sonic. Instead of being distributed all at once, these rewards are earned dynamically, ensuring that the most engaged users and applications receive the greatest benefits.

User-Focused Rewards

Sonic Points are earned by holding or interacting with whitelisted assets across DeFi applications on Sonic. These points are distributed across multiple seasons to ensure long-term sustainability.

Here’s how you can earn Sonic Points:

• Passive Points – Earned by holding whitelisted assets in supported Web3 wallets such as Rabby, MetaMask, or hardware wallets. Each asset has a multiplier applied to the points you earn. For instance, scETH and stkscETH have a multiplier of 4x while scUSD and stkscUSD are boosted by 6x. Some of these assets are boosted for the first three months to attract more users, and afterward, boosts may be extended or reduced. S tokens staked through MySonic are not eligible for points and assets stored on centralized exchanges do not qualify. 

Some assets, including WETH, SolvBTC, and SolvBTC.BBN, only generate activity points and do not qualify for passive rewards.

• Activity Points – Earned by deploying whitelisted assets as liquidity in participating DeFi applications. This method provides double the points compared to passive holdings, encouraging active engagement in the ecosystem.
• App Points (Gems) – Earned through independent DeFi app programs, where apps distribute additional rewards based on liquidity provision, staking duration, and participation in specific pools.

Certain whitelisted assets receive boosted multipliers to encourage liquidity early in Sonic’s launch. You can track your real-time point accumulation through the Airdrop Points Dashboard, which provides insights into earned points, app participation, and referral bonuses.

Developer-Focused Rewards

While Sonic Points reward individual users, Sonic Gems are designed for applications that increase network engagement. Apps can redeem Gems for S tokens, which they can distribute to their users as additional incentives. Each season, a fixed supply of Gems is allocated to apps based on performance metrics. Developers can track their progress and rankings using the points dashboard, allowing them to adjust their strategies and maximize rewards.

Applications have full control over how they distribute their earned S tokens. Some may mint their own token to represent their share of Gems, while others may use third-party solutions for transparent reward distribution.

While apps are not required to share a specific percentage of their claimed S tokens with users, those that distribute a larger share are more favorably rewarded in future allocation rounds. This ensures continued support for the most community-driven applications.

Distribution and Claim Process

The Sonic Airdrop is structured as a multi-phase release to prevent excessive sell pressure and encourage long-term participation. The first season will become claimable six months after Sonic’s launch, around June 2025. At that point, 25% of your allocation will be immediately available, while the remaining 75% vests over 270 days.

To prevent sudden token supply surges, the airdrop uses a burn mechanism that penalizes early claims. The earlier you claim, the greater the number of tokens burned. If you wait the full 270 days, you receive your full allocation. If you claim earlier, a portion of your tokens will be permanently burned, reducing overall circulation. This controlled release structure encourages long-term participation and prevents token dumping. It is designed to reward actual network activity and to promote real adoption rather than speculative trading.

Sonic also includes a referral program, where you can generate unique referral codes and invite friends to join the ecosystem. By referring others, you earn bonus points, creating additional incentives for community-driven adoption.

Players who participated in Sonic Arcade before the mainnet launch will have their points automatically added to their overall airdrop allocation, giving early adopters an extra reward for testing the network.

While the airdrop is widely accessible, users from certain jurisdictions are excluded from participating in order to comply with international regulations. Sonic will implement geo-blocking measures and reserves the right to exclude certain wallet addresses at its discretion.
