MetaMask is a digital wallet that allows users to store digital assets, interact with decentralized applications (dApps), and send cryptocurrencies to another person. Like your bank account, but for cryptocurrencies!

This wallet is available for both desktop and mobile. In this guide, we will be using Google Chrome (Desktop). Similar steps can be followed for the mobile version.

Ready to create one? Here’s a step-by-step guide in creating your first MetaMask wallet:

Step 1

Go to https://MetaMask.io/ 

Download the MetaMask wallet and install MetaMask for Chrome.

Step 2

Click the ‘Add to Chrome’ button.

Step 3

Add the extension to your browser.

Step 4

Click on “Create a wallet”.

Step 5

Set up a secure password for your wallet. Read and agree to the “Terms of use”. Once done, check the box beside it and click the “Create” button.

Step 6

Press “Click here to reveal secret words” to view your seed phrase. 

Important note: Never give out your private key or seed phrase to anyone or any website. If you do so, malicious actors will have complete access to your funds and you may never retrieve them again. It is highly recommended to write your seed phrase down and keep it in a safe and secure place. If you lose your seed phrase, MetaMask won't be able to help you get your wallet back, and your funds will be permanently gone.

Step 7

Confirm your seed phrase. Click the buttons by the word order in your seed phrase. The confirm button should become blue if everything is selected in the correct order.

Step 8

Great! You've created your very first MetaMask wallet. 

Please follow the safety tips mentioned for the ensured security of your wallet. After reading, click the “All Done” button.

If you want to take a look at your assets and make transactions, click on the extension and a pop-up window of your wallet should appear. You may also copy your account address by clicking on the 'Account 1' area, as seen in the picture below.
